Level 1 Smart Socket Charger

Simple. Safe. Effortless.

15 amp smart socket charging designed for everyday longer-stay parking.

Bring your own compatible portable charging cable, such as the one supplied with your EV, and plug it into the WattSpot smart socket.

At 15 amps, WattSpot can add around 20km of range per hour. Some cables supplied with vehicles are 8 amps, and will charge more slowly. You can order a WattSpot 15 amp cable with your WattSpot device.

Compact, affordable, and typically quick for a licensed electrician to install where site wiring is straightforward.

Designed and assembled in New Zealand. Built for homes, hotels, and fleets worldwide.

Add a Dynamic Load Management Device

A Current Transformer, or CT, is a small load management device that helps your WattSpot charger see how much electricity your home is using.

This allows the charger to safely adjust EV charging when other appliances are running, helping your home stay within its available power limit.

The WattSpot 15 amp EV charger comfortably fits within a typical 63 amp home supply, but high-current appliances like induction cooking, electric hot water, dryers, pool heaters, spa pools, and large heat pumps can push the house close to the limit when they overlap.

You may not need a CT if your home normally uses well below its available power limit. For more guidance, read our blog on smart charging and load management, or click below to include a load management device with your WattSpot preorder.

Add Optional Connectivity Upgrade

Add 4G (LTE) mobile data connectivity to your WattSpot device so it can stay connected if Wi-Fi is unavailable, weak, unreliable, or does not reach your charging space.

This optional connectivity upgrade gives your WattSpot its own mobile connection, as long as there is a 4G network, and supports remote command and control, visibility, and reporting.

Your first 3 months of data are included. The WattSpot app will let you know before this ends, and ongoing data is NZ$5/month incl. GST after that. You can pause or restart your mobile data connection at any stage.

Recommended if your charger will be installed somewhere without Wi-Fi or with patchy Wi-Fi, such as a garage, driveway, carport, shared car park, or outdoor parking area.

Add a 15 amp Charging Cable

Add an NZ certified 15 amp charging cable so your EV can get the most out of your WattSpot device.

Many EVs come with an 8 amp charging cable. While an 8 amp cable will still safely charge your vehicle using your WattSpot, it will limit how quickly your EV charges.

As a guide, at 15 amps your WattSpot device adds ~20km of charge per hour, whereas 8 amps adds only ~10km. For a 12-hour overnight charge, this could result in up to 120 km of lost range, depending on your EV.

Recommended if your EV only came with an 8 amp cable, or if you want the maximum charging speed from your WattSpot device.

Note: most EV suppliers limit charging cables to 8 amps due to the safety risks associated with drawing maximum current through a standard wall socket. These risks can include fire, electrical shock, and wiring degradation. WattSpot's certified safety protections solve that problem. To learn more about lower-power everyday charging and how WattSpot fits, read our blog on routine overnight charging.

Why WattSpot Smart Socket?

The WattSpot Smart Socket gives you safer, smarter EV charging without the cost or complexity of a traditional wall charger. It charges faster than a standard household socket, helps protect your home and vehicle, and lets you monitor, schedule, and allocate charging costs to the person using the charger.

Faster than a standard 10 amp socket: Charge up to 1.5x faster than a standard 10 amp power point, making it ideal for overnight charging and everyday use without stressing your home’s electrical system.

Safer than a standard socket: Purpose-built for EV charging with over-current protection, ground fault detection, over-temperature monitoring, and lightning protection, safeguarding your home and your vehicle.

Smart = savings: Schedule charging during off-peak electricity periods so you charge when power is cheapest. Exact savings depend on your retailer plan, rate, vehicle, and usage, but shifting charging into lower-cost windows can make a meaningful difference over time.

Is WattSpot compatible with all EVs?

Yes. WattSpot is designed to work with all major EV brands. The Level 1 Smart Socket works with compatible EV charging cables, while the Level 2 Tethered Charger is planned to use a standard Type 2 tethered cable.

Can I use it at home?

Yes. WattSpot is designed for both commercial sites and private homes. Our Level 1 smart socket offers a safe, affordable home-charging solution, while Level 2 is being developed for households and shared residential sites wanting higher-power charging.

Do I need special permits or infrastructure upgrades?

In most cases, no. WattSpot is typically installed quickly by a licensed electrician. Many sites don’t require additional infrastructure or permits, making deployment simple and cost-effective.
